Mr. David Bibiyan is a Los Angeles local who grew up in the San Fernando Valley and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Mr. Bibiyan received his Juris Doctorate (JD) from The University of Chicago Law School, consistently ranked one of the top 5 law schools in the country. While at The University of Chicago Law School, Mr. Bibiyan’s studies focused on litigation, and particularly class action litigation.
Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Bibiyan held several legal positions, including as a legal extern for The Honorable Robert N. Kwan of the United States Bankruptcy Court of the Central District of California and The Honorable Debre Katz Weintraub of the Central District of the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Bibiyan also volunteered his time with Bet Tzedek Legal Services, a non-profit providing legal services free of charge for low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles. As a member of Bet Tzedek, Mr. Bibiyan concentrated on taking on Los Angeles slumlords to remedy the effects of inhabitable conditions, particularly from bed bugs and related infestations.
He began his career in 2012 at Cohen & Lord, P.C., recognized as one of “California’s Top Ranked Law Firms” by Martindale-Hubbell’s AV Preeminent Rating. At Cohen & Lord, Mr. Bibiyan practiced a wide array of civil litigation, including representing property owners in construction and real property disputes; representing a wide array of doctors in lawsuits against hospitals, certification boards, and other key players in healthcare delivery; and even representing tens of injured employees through trial in a products liability lawsuit for serious bodily injuries. Also, at Cohen & Lord, Mr. Bibiyan represented private and government employers in state and federal courts against employee complaints of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wage-and-hour violations, and ERISA claims.
Years later, Los Angeles Employment Lawyer David Bibiyan learned that his passion was not in representing larger companies or employers shirking in their responsibilities to individuals and families. On the contrary, it came from representing those that could not represent themselves: the employees who lack bargaining power to vindicate their own rights against their employers.
Thus, in 2014, Mr. Bibiyan ceased representing employers and opened a law firm concentrating on representing employees in their battles against employers. Specifically, Mr. Bibiyan has brought actions against tens of employers across California for victims of wage theft, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and other wrongful conduct of employers.
In that time, Mr. Bibiyan has represented people with disabilities and medical conditions who are let go from their positions because they needed time off work or a workplace accommodation. He has represented people above age 40 who are treated differently because employers are looking to pay less for their employees or somehow see older employees as inflexible. He has represented employees against employers who have sexually harassed their employees physically, verbally, in exposing themselves to employees, or by implication. He has represented pregnant employees who were let go by their employers because their employers did not want their employees to miss time from work in connection with their pregnancy. And Mr. Bibiyan has represented those in between who have not suffered from any overt discrimination, retaliation or harassment but have worked hard for their employers and not been paid for all the wages due to them.
In doing so, Los Angeles Employment Lawyer David Bibiyan has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of employees all across California for unpaid wages and emotional distress caused by discrimination, harassment, and wrongful terminations.
